I have never understood why brown tweed has nearly dropped out of fashion. Perhaps this thread may give the colour a boost?I hope so.
In being in the company, as a youngster, of many elderly(perhaps they weren't too old? But then, everyone over 40 seemed ancient!) tweed clad and immensely kind, shooting and fishing men, many of whom where kilted with the added smell, of damp tweed, gun powder, fish, port , whisky, tobacco and wet dog that oozed out of the cloth aided by the distinct smell of the crotal treated tweed, plus all sorts of stories of "daring do", like tiger shooting in India, Elephant shooting in Africa, Big game rifle calibers and so on, were magic to young "Jock's " ears and being in the company of minor and the occasional not so minor famous 'Earth movers" on the world stage was heady stuff! I remember it all fondly, I just wish that I could remember who some of them were!
Nevertheless, that smell of crotal treated tweed brings back memories of many happy times.
Out of interest is this "new crotal" just being used a a description for the tweed or the colours available or both?
