Stewart of Garth
I’m reading Stewart of Garth’s Sketches and I was wondering if there was anything I should keep in mind? Obviously any primary source needs to be read with caution, especially when in concerns a topic so romantised as the Highlanders.
Would I ne right in thinking that between Sketches and Waverley, a late Georgian would be fully initiated into the lore of the highland revival?
Is the information in it relatively reliable or is most of the information about clan life, etc.. mainly made up?
Where should I go next on the subject of the highland romantic revival? Are there books I should be looking at? I’ve read Highland Style by Rosie Waine, and would to read more about the Georgian and Victorian Scottish revival.
