Three things occur to me as I view this thread.

    1. How long will it be before the counterfeit brigade try to copy the tartan?

2.I assume that some form of legal process is in place should such an event take place?

    3. Personally, I would much prefer if HM would wear the Balmoral tartan.

With the Glen Affric tartan the Pakistani weavers lost no time getting their knockoff to the market.

Ditto Isle of Skye and Princess Diana Memorial.

With this one we can only wait and see.

With Isle of Skye the Gold Brothers AKA Singh Brothers were weaving and selling it straightaway.

Rosemary Nicholson Samios (the owner of the tartan) sued and got an "interim injunction" against the brothers.

The brothers were also weaving and selling Princess Diana Memorial tartan though I didn't hear that that ever went to court.

The tartan is registered with the Intellectual Property Office. That said, their reach is not world-wide.

I haven't seen The King wear Balmoral for some time. I think he may still wear it for some evening events.
