Help please with x kilt pattern

I hope I am not being shick but I am confused by the under apron pleat. I have worked out my sizing 8" over apron and 10 x 3"pleats for a 38" rump. My under apron will be probably 12" on the other end, but what do I do with the 'under apron pleat' fabric that is next to the over apron? Is the over apron double thickness or something?

I'm not absolutely sure of the construction of the X-kilt, but the usual thing is to have a pleat which allows for movement or sitting which opens up on the attached edge of the apron.
It helps to balance the weight of the kilt, so both front and back are at least three layers.
I can't do photos very easily, I'm afraid, but the under apron pleat is not unique to the X kilt so there could be photos available to help show the structure.

Thank you, yes I understand now, still under construction but I have a larger pleat under the front apron. The x kilt seems to have an A shaped apron and I'm not sure this is the norm in kilts?

Kilts do have shaped aprons, the more tailored ones have a sinuous edge, as that avoids the illusion of being narrower at the lower edge than the top.

Kilt making can become rather addictive with ideas for different options occurring just as you are turning about to view the latest creation in a long mirror or finding a suitable length of material at a good price. I visit 'Scrapstores'- they save things from going to the tip, and that is why I have a room full of sewing stuff.
