    western days at Riley's

    We went out to oak glen 2 days this week. They were having their western celebration. Cowboy, civil war, The US expedition into Mexico re-enactors, crafts and venders, music and our usual hiking. The second day my son's family wanted to go see it so we went with them

    Looks like a really nice event!

    Is it Tim Riley?

    He's a very good piper and fife player.

    Last time I was at Riley's was years ago for a Fife & Drum gathering, it was really cool.

    It dawned on me that the Fife & Drum scene is a lot like the Pipes & Drums scene, but without having to constantly tune the pipes! The fifers could just walk around with their fifes in their pockets, then go and play.

    A pipe band spends about an hour tuning before every performance.

    It is his family that runs it. Last I talked to Tim he had his separate orchard just up the road from the Nature conservancy
