Here's the "Made In Scotland Real Leather" stamp that sometimes appears on sporrans that clearly look Pakistani (to me anyhow).

In the Pakistani maker's defence it doesn't actually say "made in Scotland, real leather" it says "made in real leather Scotland" (the word "Scotland" could be claimed to not refer to anything concerning the sporran).

Like the Harley logo, read top to bottom, says "Motor Harley-Davidson Cycles". But, likewise, there are two different fonts or type styles.

It opens up the thing where Scotland-based importers selling Pakistani kilts, sporrans, etc label their wares "Highland Mist Kilts Scotland" (or whatever) leading to some people being misled into thinking that the stuff is Scottish-made.

In any case, not super-cheap but still a fraction they would cost new, a couple Janet Eagleton sporrans.

In general I don't care for most Eagleton things, this one's less odd than most

This one's an oddly inchoate Hunting sporran (featuring the cords that go nowhere)

Of course under MOD contact Eagleton made entirely normal things

That one is very tempting. I'd have to swap the clan crest of course.

What do you suppose the cantle material is?

That's a good question. Who knows, nowadays.

In the old days the least expensive cantles were solid German Silver, quite nice.

Some of the modern cantles feel suspiciously light.

WE Scott EW4 Evening sporran, the "pony" made for the US market, $40.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/28712233049...6PYT6KQV5EEJ43

WE Scott plain black Day sporran, $24.

Evidently made after they stopped using the gold oval Made In Scotland Real Leather stamp, and started just putting a sticker on the back, which falls off.

I asked. Seller replied, "I think it is a nickel alloy. It is not silver or brass."

Hmmm if true that's better than the pot metal I suspected, or aluminium, or something.

Here's a gorgeous Nicoll Brothers sealskin Evening sporran in the UK £65 a nice find for non-US people.

Very nice vintage WE Scott seal Evening sporran, here in the USA.

Yes it's missing one tassel but still a bargain at this price.

Unlike the modern cheap-looking cast chrome-plated tops, this one is a solid sheet of German Silver that's been engraved and pierced.

Piper Leathercraft "hunting" sporran $33 Buy It Now.

The tab with the press-button is damaged, otherwise it looks good.

Interesting that the front is embossed using a stamp I associate with Nicoll Brothers.
