I hike in my UKs a lot. Don't notice any different effects than in my other brand kilts with wider aprons.

Only hiking problem is the fire helmet chaffing, and that's with any kilt without a long tailed shirt, bodyglide, or other soft cloth protection.
Of all the problems you may have with UK, wearing them ain't one.
