Yup, the French Revolution was one stage, but it was more a matter of style and name/description.The origins of bifuracted garments is far older and probably goes back to ancient China, like many other developments. Now that I think about it, the Ice Man, an ancient mummy found frozen in the mountains, was wearing hide trousers. They go back a long way as a practical development for certain climatic and societal situations.
