Butcher Cumberland...
Ahhhhh, Stinkin' Willie!
I'd forgotten about him in connection with the Campbells.
"Butcher" Cumberland hated all Scots, whether Goverment or Jacobite supporters. He distrusted even the loyal government clans and Scottish units in his forces, and it took moderates like Lord Duncan Forbes of Culloden House to publically speak out against his abuses. Forbes, like many of the gentry, attempted to remain neutral, even though Charlie & Cumberland used his estate during the Culloden campaign.
And, as I mentioned before, there were several Campbells found serving in the prince's army at Culloden.
