Thanks Todd. I must say my knowledge of Ireland is almost zero. I don't think the Connaught tartan would look that good on me. Have you seen the Skye district tartan? These two look somewhat similar in their main color. I was going to get a Skye kilt, since that is where the MacLeod clan seat is Castle Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, but I do not like those colors.

    Irish geography...

    David,

I must admit that I had to look at a provincial map of Ireland to remember all of the counties in Connaught -- my Duggan relatives are from Connaught, btw.

    Cheers,

    Todd

My Mom's family name is Butler, so I expect my next Kilt and Fly Plaid will be the Butler tartan. I took Mom to Ireland last September and we visited Kilkenny Castle, the seat of the Butler family in Ireland. Even stayed at another bed & breakfast castle run by a Butler family.

My Aunt and cousin have been there often for gatherings of the Butler Society. It was always one of my Aunts great pleasures.

Since we are talking about district tartans here, I thought I'd give a little plug for my Compendium of District Tartans_.
    http://albanach.org/cdt.htm

It's the definitive collection of district tartans from all over the world (over 450 of them), including pictures, thread counts, and history for each one.

    Also, my web site, District-Tartans.com.
    http://www.district-tartans.com/

Here you'll see pictures of many (not all) of the tartans in the CDT, though no thread counts or history (just a designer's name and date, if known). But you can purchase items from this site.

I just got my first district tartan kilt, in the Mull tartan!
    Aye,
    Matt

I too say thanks for the links. I am hoping that they will be helpful in my quest to find remaining family members in Northern Ireland. After my uncle passed away in 2002, I have no way to find any of the family there (McNeills and Farrels). The only info I now have is my uncles birth certificate from Dungannon, county Tyrone and a few newspaper clippings.
