I like this one, but I'm sure it would take me all of 10 minutes to get used to the new format.

One question though - can you upload full size images, or are you restricted as on the present forum format?

    Cheers,

    Rick

vBulletin is a much more user friendly BBS system than phpBB. I have never had a moments issue with cookies when using vBulletin (which there have been a lot of probs with phpBB). The admin functions are twice as good on vBulletin as well. Most of the savy webmasters use vBulletin. I am not promising anything but there may be a change in the future. If I understand correctly it will not affect your usernames and passwords as I will be able to port them to the new system.

I guess we will have to see!

Of course you must do what you think best, Hank, but personally I much prefer what I am used to - this one. The other is far too fussy/too much to read or to take in/ cannot see the wood for the trees/etc., etc.

If it ain't broke, don't repair it! Is is broke?

I personally like the forum the way it is.

I would just change this awful drab colour scheme. I like the one on the highlander radio site....Just my opinion

Hank, here is some input from the "other side".

I made this switch about 6 weeks ago. I will never regret the change. Your life will become MUCH easier with the vBulletin Admin Control Panel. The Mods will appreciate the Mod CP, as well.

If you check out the vBulletin site, you can even set up the Admin CP on a demo, so you can take it for a test drive.

My users were hincky for a couple of days and then, after they had the chance to explore a bit, they were all quite enthusiastic about the change.

There are certainly more skins available for phpBB that for vBulletin, so that might be a plus for phpBB.

There is the expense involved, to purchase the license, but I have yet to regret a single cent of it. phpBB is decent forum software, to be sure. I used it myself for several months. But, you can drive a Yugo, or you can drive a Corvette.

As for your database, yes, it can be ported over into vB. You may see some hiccups here and there, but overall, the porting process works quite well. I was still with my old host when I made the change and only had one MySQL database available to me, but one of the vB techs helped me out with that issue, too.

If you've any questions or worries, PM me and I will be happy to discuss the change-over process with you.

And no, I am not a sales agent for Jelsoft, before anyone gets the wrong idea! Just another happy vBulletin customer!

I don't think any of us are going to bail out if you change over Hank. All in all, as long as it remains fairly simple for the users you should go with whatever makes your job easier. I looked at the AZ board and I really didn't see much of anything that would cause a big problem.

Several boards I frequent are in the other style, and they seem to work really well.

I would support the change, whatever you do Hank, I'll be staying......

From this users stand. I got rather confused at first on the other forum, but according to logic, I'd surely get used to it after a few days. I'm all for doing things the easy way, and if it will make things easier for you and the mods, than I say have at it. I'll get used to the change.

The change itself isn't what is important to me, the fact that you think highly enough of the kilted community to ask our opinion is an honor in itself.

As long as I can continue to read about the wonders of kilts, and occasionally spew my drivel, I'll be happy.
