As you celebrate Tartan Day, also remember that this marks the 685th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath. An important day in Scottish history, to be sure.

Well, is not often I wear it but something MUST be in the ether... Coincidentally decided to wear the tartan today (I think it's a tank, but am not sure what "tank" means!! )
Anyway, was glad I wore it this morning and am more glad now .
Have a good Tartan day.......

No local events going on in this small town. Had planned on wearing my Scottish National to work but that got canked since I have to be in and out of containment areas all day (ever try to get in and out of coveralls gracefully while in a kilt? ) I'll prolly do something this evening to mark the occasion.

Last night (Tuesday), Alan and I went to Georgetown University in DC for a free concert by the Battlefield Band, a very popular (in Scotland) Scottish band originally from Glasgow. (Battlefield is an area of Glasgow.) They were GREAT! Fantastic show. It was co-sponsored by the university and the Scottish National Party.
As far as I could see, Alan was the ONLY guy wearing a kilt at the show, which seems weird, but maybe most people were coming from work. Fiona Ritchie (host of the Thistle & Shamrock radio programme on NPR stations in the US) was supposed to be the MC, but she had to rush back home to Scotland because her father, Bob Ritchie, was gravely ill, and then he died. So as we celebrate Tartan Day, let's share a prayer for Fiona and her family, and for the memory all those Scots who have gone before us. A message from Fiona was read at the concert, asking everyone to have a dram (of whisky) for her dad and her family.
Clanna nan Gaidheal ri guaillabh a cheile! (Scottish Gaelic, pronounced 'clannuh nung ga-yull ree goo-ullyyiv uh ch-yaeluh' -- Children of the Gaels, shoulder to shoulder!)
Tonight our local St Andrew's Society are having a casual get-together at Champion's Billiards in Frederick, MD, for food and drinks -- so anyone in the DC/MD/VA/PA/WV region, come and join us if you like! 5:30 to whenever.
This Saturday is the Cherry Blossom Parade in DC, and there will be a Tartan Day contingent marching, including the Scottish American Military Society, the Rockville High School Pipe Band, and Richmond St Andrew's Legion Pipe and Drum. The parade starts at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, a Tartan Day celebration will be held at the Flying Scotsman Pub on 2nd Street NW, starting at 1:00 PM. No cover charge, open to all. See http://www.tartandaydc.org/ for this and other NTD events in the DC area.
Whether celebrating by yourself or with friends, enjoy the day and all it signifies! Read a translation of the Declaration of Arbroath (memorialised by Tartan Day) at http://www.constitution.org/scot/arbroath.htm.

Happy Tartan Day indeed!
Wish I could wear mine today - I'll be donning it as soon as I get home, in fact, maye the person picking me up to day can bring it when they come so I can change!

My wife and I will be attending the opera this evening. I will be kilted, of course, and I anticipate, that my wife will be wearing a sash in the same tartan as my kilt.

Thanks Cindy for announcing our event. I plan to be there starting at 5:30, may try to get there just a little earlier. Do you plan to come? The idea is that we are to raid the place, drink all the beer, eat all the food, destroy the place by playing darts drunk, with the pipe band sending in reinforcements around 8:30. Then we shall run out of the place carrying their cute waitresses under our arms.
The pipe band won't be playing though. This is an invasion in the truest sense. Champion's does not know we are coming. They have plenty of seating and it is a weeknight, so they will have no trouble seating us. It is a long story of how we ended up going to Champion's and the announcement coming out at the last minute.
