Kilts go everywhere!

Kilts are not just for big cities, or quiet hill walks.

They are right at home in an Arkansas hollow, standing on the firing line with lots of birfurcated folks.



The Kilted Sixgunner in the photo is none other than the Kilted Kid Cossack, a member of this forum.

Kid Cossack was the only person kilted at the event, I had too much fire to tend at the cooking site. He got lots of good natured joking and many envious looks. A few even admitted to being jealous.

Another man told me humorously, "You know Doc, everyone keeps telling Lewis how brave he is to wear a kilt among this group. But the really brave ones are those of us who will be seen in public with him." I responded, "Those are might bold words from a man with a Clan Gunn kilt in his closet."

Lots of fun for all and lots of good exposure for the kilt.

I've been to the firing range a few times in the kilt and never get more than a surprised look. No negative comments there, ever. Then again it's not wise to insult someone that is well armed.

You'd like Kid Cossack's newest toy. He, along with the assistance of a few other Sixgunner Family Members have come up with a new wildcat cartridge that pretty well duplicates the old .476 Eley cartridge. It is a real hoot to shoot. Easy on the hand, highly effective on game.

Why Doc Hudson you old rascal! Thankee right kindly for posting the link and reminding me to come back and show my face around here.

I have been kilted most of the time for, oh, about the last 18 months or so, and remain pleased as punch about the reactions. I'll admit, I get a few odd looks, particularly when I venture from the Bayou City, but no one gives me much guff about it.

I get some of these, though:

So far, the only time anyone has really said "anything" was about a year back in Madisonville, Texas. I'd stopped off at a Pizza Hut for some lunch, and some youngsters started giggling about "look at the silly man in the skirt." Of course, they were wearing their ball caps indoors, so I simply said, "I'll not take fashion advice from anyone who wears a hat indoors," and that was the end of it.

I will confess, though, that tromping through the brush last weekend helping you gather up firewood made me wish I had something to protect my calves a bit.

My long term goal is to ensure that Doc H has both a good kilt and a good 480 Achilles---he's too much one of us to lack either!

It would be ill advised to make fun of a man wielding a six shooter no matter what he's wearing. Not that he would be dumb enough to use it in retaliation.

Uncle Ricky, these are a bunch of the best folks I've had the privilege of. Without turning this into a gun thread, I can say that at our yearly meets I've left several thousand dollars worth of handguns sitting on the firing line and gone off to visit with other people.

So far as my daily encounters go, well, I'm generally unarmed except for my good looks, winning personality and an old Extreme Tactical Operator Combat Ninja Boy folder (aka an old Case pocket knife).

I figure if someone wants to make fun of my kilt, I'll evaluate the situation and decide on an appropriate response. The appropriate response could range from a ruthless ribbing right back at 'em (everyone's got something that can be made fun of) to a polite disengagement and withdrawal. I wouldn't pull a gun on someone unless I was in fear for my life, and I do all I can to avoid those type of situations.

I know exactly where you are coming from. When I lived in Virginia a few years back, I was very active on the shooting range. Did all of my own reloading. Even made some black powder pistols and rifles.
I was certainly not suggesting that a man with a gun would actually contemplate using it or even point it in jest because of a remark made by someone. Anyone who did that would be expelled from the range permanently.
My remark was made in the same jest as someone comenting on the kilt.

Um, sorry, that's Russian for: understood, over.

It's funny, sometimes, in a sad sort of way, how people will misunderstand others based on something like wearing a kilt or enjoying shooting.

Right after I got out of the Corps, I went ahead and grew my hair out reasonably long. It was more because I could do it than because I really wanted to. One day at a local range, I heard an old boy sniff something about the hippy on the line, and after looking around I realized he was talking about me! I explained to him that, sir, with all due respect, I'm no hippy, I'm just a different kind of redneck.

The neat part of it was that we ended up having a grand time at the range that day, as he also had a 6.5mm Swedish Mauser and was nuts over it.

Excellent Kid Cossack! Sometimes, people will toss an insult your way just to see what you are made of. It's a good reason not to take offence too quickly.
