Check the various military surplus vendors on the web (Cheaper Than Dirt, Sportsman's Guide, etc.) for surplus gaiters. They can be had for a steal, and do a great job of protecting the shins/calves when working out on the woodlot. I know my profile screams "city" but I've also got a 36 acre spread down in North Carolina so these things are a concern from time to time.

Last time I went to the range kilted, I got a few odd looks until I pulled out this short little old lookin carbine-length rifle and opened fire. Everyone, and I mean everyone, stopped shooting and looked over to see what I was packin. It was a 1941 Russian M38 Mosin-Nagant (7.62x54R). Lordy, I love that little rifle. If truck/car guns were legal in PA, I'd carry that thing with me everywhere.

If I ever travel that deeply into the south I'll look y'all up and the ladies from hell can go take over the local range. Though I admit my travels rarely take me further than Durham, and once in a blue moon as far as Atlanta.
