For me, each man just needs to wear what kilts he's comfortable with and enjoys. The more we wear kilts, the more the public will get used to them.
The more we treat people with respect who ask questions and hand out cards from kiltmakers, the more at ease the general public will be with kilted men.
I wear some kilts to work, some to formal gatherings, others out hiking and on the river, some to just knock around town and do chores in.
Since I live in a small town and, so far, am the only kilted one about folks get to see me in the variety of kilts that I wear. I think that helps them understand that I choose to wear kilts.
But the old line, "What you think of me is none of my business" applies. I wear kilts because I love wearing kilts. I wear kilts for me.
Other's are welcome to wear what they want.
I'm not adverse to doing some "marketing." Went on a kilted trip this weekend. A massage therapist friend took interest in the freedom. Gave him a kiltmaker's card. Was at the supermarket in Phoenix and a guy in the checkout line took an interest, gave him a kiltmaker's card. Was at a gift shop in Black Canyon City and an old RV driver guy took an interest. Explained how comfortable kilts were to drive long distances in and gave him a kiltmaker's card. Each may choose to try a kilt, then their circle of friends gets interested...and the acceptance of kilts grows a bit more.

Was at Rock Springs Cafe (and home made pie shop ) for breakfast. A number of gift shops have sprung up adjacent to that busy place.
Was a biker rally coming through this morning. The only one to comment on my kilt was the cashier who asked me if I'd brought my bagpipes. I smiled at her and said, "No, she divorced me for talking about her like that." Left her to figure that one out...
If there were buffalo there I missed them and they weren't promoting them. There are some up just north of Flagstaff at Sacred Mountain Trading Post...saw them later on the way home.

I know the Rock Springs Cafe. The place I'm talking about is at the Black Canyon City exit, a little farther north on I-17 than Rock Springs -- the next exit, I believe. There is (or was, last time I was through there) a poor lonely buffalo in a pen behind the restaurant. But the restaurant is OK, foodwise.

Only other place I know there (30 years in Phoenix) is the restaurant on the East side of I-17 on top of a small hill that specialized in serving mountain oysters
That place has changed hands and names many times in recent years...think its primarily a dinner place.
Would have been one "hot" buffalo in the Phoenix summers.

The place with the buffalo is on the west side too. It's more of a BBQ and steak house kind of place. I thought the Rock Springs Cafe was the place with mountain oysters (as well as Penny's Pies)! Is there another one? (Never ordered them, myself!)
While we're on this diversion into AZ eateries, have you ever been to the Cowboy Cookshack in Scottsdale? They have the BEST hamburgers ever! It's not far from the intersection of N. Alma School and E. Jomax. But you can't get there by going out E. Jomax. You have to go on N. Pima, east on E. Happy Valley and then north on N. Alma School. (Don't turn off at the Pinnacle Peak Patio by mistake.) If everything's still the same, you will see a small Navajo-type hogan on the left. The Cookshack is in a small house (yes, house, or rather, former house -- the 'restroom' has a bathtub!) on the right, just a little past the hogan. They have tables in the back, on the desert, and some indoor tables too, but eat outside! It's practically in the shadow of Pinnacle Peak. If you get lost, go to the Pinnacle Peak Patio and ask them how to get there, but don't let them sucker you into eating there instead! Especially if you happen to be wearing an X Marks tartan tie! (Or any kind of tie... don't even go in with one on, or they will cut it off and nail it to the wall. Fun for tourists. I don't know what they might do to a kilt! This is one reason the Cookshack must exist, to bring the balance of reason to that corner of the desert...)
Sorry to have strayed so far off-topic, but this is vital information of use to anyone in Arizona!
Oh! And you must also have the fried chicken at the Horny Toad in Cave Creek. It's so good, my stepfather in Maryland asked me to bring him some by airplane (in a cooler, with ice) when I was flying east from PHX!
NOT Crazy Ed's Satisfied Frog, mind you (a poor imitation), but the original Horny Toad!

Please forgive my lunatic ravings about food in AZ -- I have been sick with gastroenteritis since Thursday and haven't eaten anything but jello and chicken broth for more than 60 hours! I'm starving!

I've said it before, and I'll say again:
Damn a conversation that can't stand a little wandering!
Makes things more interesting to start talking about one subject and see where it ends up landing.

I gotta get some cards. That's a great idea. I'm gonna write to Rocky and Jerry and get s package of their business cards and toss a few in my sporran.
