I'm also trying to figure out if it would be better to go with a medium weight fabric (13 oz.) or the heavier 16 oz. fabric. Any thoughts on that one?

Thanks.
Linda Clifford has a good reputation, so I think you'd be fine ordering from her. It's a well-established business, definitely not a fly-by-night!

Either 13 oz. or 16 oz. tartan is good for a kilt -- but I don't recommend anything lighter. I always advise my customers to go for the heavier weight (16 oz.) if they want the best quality kilt. It will wear and 'swing' a bit better, and there's usually only a relatively little difference in price, unless you're getting a rare tartan. A well-made 16 oz. kilt is a real heirloom item, and worth the investment!
