Sett Size ?

This appears like it could work as a tarten kilt. Is the sett too small?

It's on the small side, but at a 4 7/8" repeat, it's certainly doable. Some like the look of bigger setts, but smaller ones give you more options. You could do really shallow pleats, or really deep pleats by 'doubling' the return [if you follow - not really doubling exactly].

It looks nice, and at $10 for a worsted wool... see if you can find out the fabric weight before you commit.

You could always double it up also, and use 2 setts as one.....

Note that this is a plain weave, and kilt cloth is usually a twill weave. It's going to look wrong to anyone familiar with kilts.

The twill weave that's used for kilts gives the fabric a bit more "shapeability" - plain weave fabric doesn't skew particularly well in comparison to twill because the "over one-under one" weave is more rigid than the "over two-under two" weave of a twill. So, twill is better for making kilts. But, at under $10 a yard, it might make a good fabric for a first try if you were going to make a kilt yourself.
