I personally dont like the "sweep and sit" method as it looks girly no matter what.

I've just learned to incorporate the natural movements when you sit into a bit of a swing one way, when you sit the other way. It naturally sweeps the pleats under you as you sit, and as you slide back into the seat everything settles nicely.

You'll still have to manage the drop of the front apron though, as was already posted.
