thank you,
thank you, this is really helping me.
Is there a certain rule or ocasion for using a box pleat?

okay-
No, it dosen't make the kilt special if it has box pleats, it's a matter of preferance. However, box pleated kilts are not what's considered "the norm" (but then again, in our culture, what is? ) Knife pleats ususally go, if you are looking at a kilt lying on the ground, pleat side towards you with the belt loops on top, they go >>>> and not <<<< The apron on a men's kilt opens on the right. IE, looking at it laying on the ground, apron side up, belt loops atop, the apron would be over here <<<<.
Hope that helps.
I might have gotten the apron side example wrong, just know it opens on the RIGHT.

Dude, glad that you're on the site. You'll get a LOAD of answers to your questions.
If you're going to post any more questions about kilt construction or design, fly over to the "Kiltmakers" section. I RARELY come over here to the "Newbies" area (along with others with time constraints).
The kiltmakers on this site are MORE than happy to walk you through the entire process. Ask away!

Well, I posted a new message but got no reaction yet. I'm making a kilt as i follow the forum and i'm quite stuck now. The top of the pleats (about 10 to 15 cm) has to be stitched right? How????

Welcome to the forum, eh? But I have to say that Barb's book is only eighteen dollars, if I remember rightly..

Welcome! You really will get a lot of information and views here
I got information from the net on making a kilt, and I had one to look at at the same time. However, the real construction is far more complex than I (even as an experienced sewer!) could have imagined. I thought I had done a pretty good job, but when you read the information, and have another look at your work it screams out 'not done properly'. Suffice to say they don't have long apprenticeships for nothing!
