I hear ya. They carry the California State Tartan. Looks like Glen Affric weavers produces the tartan. I can get a 16 ounce, 8 yard California Tartan kilt from them for $385, plus $40 shipping. That's a lot of money, but it's $150 less than what I'd pay if I stepped up to the only vendor I know of here in California that sells it. Problem is, I don't think my budget can chunk down both a California State tartan kilt *and* the X Marks kilt.
It's darned tempting, though.
Their "casual" kilts are on sale, too. But I can't get a casual in the California Tartan.
Be cautious in the tartan you select. I sort of feel like a bait and switch. This is the email I got after ordering and seeing the final price as quoted here on the board.
"Thank you for placing your order with us, her at Scotweb. The tartan fabric that you have chosen is a special weave which can only be set up on a single width loom, which is 70 cm wide rather than the usual 140 cm, therefore it takes twice as much material to make an eight yard kilt (7.4M rather than 3.7M).
This, unfortunately incurs a GBP 100.00 surcharge. If you are willing to pay this please authorise it via E mail and I will place the order."
I just clicked in there again, and now the going price for an 8 yard wool traditional kilt is showing up as $332..... DEPENDING ON THE MATERIAL. You might check to see if your tartan is available at a super-budget price.
The California tartan is not, unfortunately for me. *wwwaaaah*
