Whats the right lengh for a UK
I am thinking about a UK for the summer but for the life of me I don't know what lenght to get. I look at all the pictures and they semm to be worn from 2" above the knee to mid calf. Any suggestions. I was thinking that mid knee would be best.

Mine sits pretty much right at the middle of the knee. I'm 5'11", with relatively short legs and I wear an "S". My traditional kilts are about 21.5 inches. I don't know if that helps.

I'm 5'11" with long torso and short legs. I wear a Short and it hits just above the knee and right under the navel. Some times I wonder about the extra short but I've found the short gives me the illusion of longer legs.

Well they are made to be worn on the hips, not up higher like a traditional kilt. Now depending on where you want it to hit will determine the length. I generally suggest anywhere near the middle of the knee, whether that falls slightly higher or lower by preference.
I'm 6 ft with a 34 inch inseam and I wear a medium (23 inches) At that length it hits me right mid knee.

To my eye, mid-knee to bottom of knee looks best... as long as you don't start covering your calves, you're fine.

I'm 5'9" and I am in perfectly proportioned 8) (except for a bit of a gut). I wear a "short" in UK's. It hits me just below mid knee cap. If I want it a bit higher or lower I adjust how the tightness of my belt.
Good Luck.

I'm 6'0" and 60 years old..wear my Utilikilts the same place I wear my jeans, under my belly. I wear a short (also have a short inseam, 30"). I like the kilt to be under my belly and at the top of my knees.
Nice thing about the UKs is the funny pleated apron...drops between your legs automatically when you sit...don't have to worry about what's showing like with the traditional kilt apron style. Always feel a bit more casual wearing them for that reason.
Best way to size is like most kiltmakers say. Measure your waist where you're gonna wear the kilt and do the length with a yardstick while kneeling.
I think you'll lose a lot of the freedom of movement if you get it any shorter than mid-knee.

I like a kilt to end at the top of my knee. Most guys I've seen wearing UKs tend to wear them longer than I prefer. In fact, when I ordered my Mocker, the sales rep expressed some surprise at the shortness I wanted when I gave him my waist measurment. I think mine's an extra short (19"), and it's the perfect length. (I'm at work and wearing it, so I can't very easily check the tag.)

Daneel,
Of course there is no 'correct' length for a Utilikilt. It is a very casual garment with no more than five years history and little tradition. It is not a Scottish (or Celtic) kilt and, as I see it, you wear it as you want to wear it.
Having been a wearer of THE kilt for over 50 years, I wear my UKs at about the same length as I do my other kilts - just to the top of the knee cap; certainly no longer than mid-knee. I suggest that most established kilt-wearers going for a Utilikilt would also select a length to which they are accustomed.
It is patently obvious, however, that many, if not most, American guys (yes, Americans in particular!) without previous kilt experience choose to wear their UKs far too long; as you say, around "mid-calf"! To my mind, this definitely presents a 'skirty' look, and also gives the impressioin that the wearer has borrowed the kilt from someone larger/taller than himself!!
