Fraser Red Pleated to a Red Stripe

I'd like your opinions on this idea.

My preference is to pleat to the stripe rather than the sett, and I like the look of this. I think it would be a difficult kilt to sew (those red stripes are all rather close together), but the end result looks great to me.

What would it look like to the white stripe??

I do like the overall 'purple' look, too.... I bet it would look neat when swaying.....

i rather like the look. no idea about the difficulty factor. it seems that the lighter colours would FLASH as the kilt swung!

Thanks guys. My eye was not sure about all the little red horizontal lines. I thought it might make it look too chopped up and loose any effect of a solid horizontal line.

I really like Pleated to stripe as well and would love to make a Fraser tartan work to stripe.

Pleated to the white looks awful. The colors are so faded that it appears pink and white.

Comparing it to a Gordon Modern to stripe you really see the difference in effect.

The difficulty is a concern as well but I think your pleat would span the blue stripes on each side of the red. Maybe our many qualified kilt makers could advise me on this.

    How do I like it?

If I could afford it, I'd order one pleated like that for the man who was Secretary for our Lodge for 47 years. He often wears a tie in the Fraser Red Tartan.

    Does that answer the question?

Kelly and I call it "the Lawn Chair" effect. The horizontal stripes make the kilt sort of look like lawn chair straps...

When you pleat a tartan to the stripe, it's best to pick a stripe that REALLY stands out. The Yellow stripe in Gordon Mod for instance. If I were to do Frasier, I'd PROBABLY do it to the sett as there's nothing that REALLY pops out against a BRIGHT RED background. If are going to pleat it to the stripe, I'd see what it looked like with the white stripe centered on the pleat rather than the red.

    just my $.02

I mocked up a pleat to white stripe at this link

    http://community.webshots.com/photo/...64465038MmDPrw

It doesn't look good to me.

I'm not going to force a square peg into a round hole but I wanted to get your opinions on these options.

I'm glad some of you like the pleat to red stripe but I do see what Rocky means about the "Lawn Chair" effect. I think that's what my mind was trying to tell me although the flash of red as it moves would be cool.

I agree with Rocky on this one. Pleated to the sett would look best. It's very much like the Hamilton which looks great pleated to the sett.

Pleated to the white stripe looks like crap.

Sorry, but I am known for my blunt and objective opinions. Just stating the obvious here fellas.

There has to be a better way to pleat it... Both of those photos look... Iffy.

    Edit.

The actual tartan design is beautiful. Pleat it so it recreates the pattern in the back.
