A wee bit of the hair of the horse...
Since I have found that this forum can answer most if not all of my questions, I have another for the collected wisdom.
For a very special occasion, I have just gotten a Military style hair sporran with five tassles. I know, only pipers need wear them etc. but I think they are so cool. What I need to know is proper care o' the hair. Its got a case of flyaway hair and the tassles end up getting entangled with the white hairs.
Any tips on hair sporrans, their care and feeding?

I thought Billy Connolly looked fine in the sporran in the film Mrs Brown. They look great on pipers, but seem very un-functional.

OK you are going to begin to think that I am a freak between hair spray for your ghillie laces an now what I am about to suggest. I will assume your sporran is genuine horse hair because this won't work on synthetic hair sporrans. Are you ready for this...hop down to your local tack shop (horse equipment for those who are not familar with the equine world) and pick up a bottle of mane n' tail conditioner and follow the directions on the bottle. The spray bottles are easier to use. This will keep the hair on your sporran in control and will keep the hairs from drying out and becoming brittle. The conditoner will also help keep your sporran cleaner and will give it a nice shine. You don't want to comb the hairs because that will cause them to break or pull them out from the sporran backing. I know I know it sounds weird but it works.

Buy Main 'n' Tail here
Paul's absolutely right! Click above and you can see the nominal cost for taking care of such a sporran. It's WELL worth the small investment. It also works very well on horsehair rope and goat bodhran skins.
Arise. Kill. Eat.

Thanks gents.
I 'll trot on down to my local tack shop and paw the ground with my hoof till they get the idea. Or I'll apply my hoof to their ample haunches till they get the dressage... Paul, I don't think it weird. I value the info from wisdom. It only gets weird if... well, it reminds me of the story of what was kinky and what was perverted. Sex with a feather is kinky, a whole chicken, perverted. Now then hairspray for the sporran and conditioner for the laces... well...
