kilt'n "Metal" style
Greetings ladies and gents,
I don't post too often cause I typically don't have much to say. However I have a little exsperence I would like to share.
I was a judge at a local Metal / hXc "Battle of the Bands" show this weekend and figured it would be a good time to sport my black workmans UK. It was a blast, most of these folks had never seen a comtempory style kilt and the few that had never would have wore one.
One major exception was the vocalist from a band called Sanctity. He saw me from across the room and just starts scream'n "Is that a Utilikilt?" and of course I reply with just a thumbs up. He just starts going off. From all the way across the club with about 100 people between us the just goes nuts "That's as bad as H****!!", " Thats F-n awsome!". He got the whole club lookin at me as I walk through the door and he just keeps scream'n "Thats as bad as s***!" He was a fan, no doubt. He continued through out the night bring people by the judges table to check out my UK.
I have a few stories from this weekend's little adventure, but I will wait and share them in another post. Just thought ya'll would geta kick out the fact that you may have a few kilt fans in the Metal world.
thanx...Ded N. Buried

Great story Ded. And I truly believe every single word of it!!!
There are certain venues that we play that are absolutely perfect for the style and "rough" look of the UtiliKilt. The reactions from the people are 100% positive. The tartans can draw some of the "normal" comments... but the UtiliKilts just get raved over.
Keep in mind though, that this is at the more rowdy establishments and venues. I don't think it would go over so well at the Talisker's Sailors Ball.
Let's see if that singer will get the "brass ones" enough to wear one on-stage!

On of the college guys I supervise plays in a metal band.."Crooked Mile" here on campus. I'm sorely tempted, if this carhartt orange canvas kilt goes OK, to buy a few yards of black canvas whip him up a kilt to wear with the band.
Who knows if he'd wear it, but heck.

He said he had a more traditional kilt that he wore from time to time, but was saving up for a UK. I told him about some of the dent and scratch sales they have and really seemed excited. So hopefully he'll be sporting one soon. They placed 2nd in the battle of the bands, so I know he made a little money.
The only greif I got that night was from the bouncer and he is always screwin with me about something. And he even finally came by the table and stoped and stared at me for a sec and said "You got bigger balls than me"... I took it as a compliment.

That's great! Just wish everyone who said things like that to me would go and get one themselves, instead of talking about it!

Just curious... what would you consider the "more rowdy" establishments and venues in Philly? (hey maybe I'm hanging out at the wrong places!)

Mags... you haven't been to the a few of the AOH halls, the Irish Firefighters parties, the Flynn Craichs or the Shamrock Underground. There's absolutely NO WAY to explain them, or even compare them to anything else. On the other hand, picture college on Saturday night with a load of "happy" Irishmen.
