    Thumbs up Math-Ghamhainn an Gàidhlig

Mahony, Ó Mahúna, O’ Mahony, Mahoney, O’ Mahoney

The Mahony name is derived from the Gaelic Ó Mathghamhna, from “Mathghamhan” meaning ‘bear’. The surname originated in the southern province of Munster in the eleventh century when it was adopted by one of the dominant families of the Eoghanacht people who were a royal dynasty. Today the name is the forty sixth most numerous in Ireland, being fourth most numerous in Cork, and also strong in surrounding counties.

I like this one. May go with it when I can muster up 100.00 USD for a silver brooch.

Yikes! $100.00 for a kilt pin. I hope you don't lose it.

It can be worth looking at some of the 'alternative religion' or maybe new age shops-and museum shops.

At a museum shop I got a superb 'pewter boar', which makes en excellent pin-too as the boar is a symbol of virility and stength-it goes well with the kilt.

Whilst in London shop called Mysteries I found some copper coloured metal 'dragon' badges. Again they make excellent kilt pins. As do Celtic/Norse pewter 'gripping beast' brooches.

Non of the above are that expensive, and can look better on a kilt than some of the pot-metal things offered as kilt pins by the suppliers.

    James
