Saw lots of kilts over the weekend

I was at Convergence (www.convergence-con.com) and saw a lot of utilikilts as well as some others.

Passed on the xmarks website to a couple of them.

As for myself, I was not wearing a kilt. (The only one I own is the one I made myself - and I'm taking it in about 6 inches). Instead, I was wearing Imperial Royal Guard from Star Wars since I was assisting with the opening ceremonies and hanging out with the 501st and FanForce folks.

And then yesterday, as I was leaving my fireworks watching spot, I saw a guy wearing a UK with 2 gals at his side.

Fun weekend all around. Hope everyone else's July Fourth was special, especially for the Americans.

I was also there, and was among the "others". I wore my Minnesota tartan kilt Saturday afternoon and my Davidson "tank" that evening.

    Glenn,

Its nice to hear from someone back home. I was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, though I now live in Florida.

I have considered having a kilt made of Minnesota Tartan, but the pink in the tartan has stopped me. Do you have a picture of your Minnesota Tartan kilt?

    Minnesota Tartan

I like the Minnesota Tartan - it's pretty sharp. I had a chance to see it in person at the Tartan Day celebrations. Were you at the con on Friday, GMCDavid? I was only at the con on Friday night - I spent the rest of the weekend with my wife and sons.

As far as being a Star Wars nerd, just don't start asking me any trivia. I would probably get 98% of it wrong. But the Minnesota members of the Fan Force and 501st are great folks. (I've only met a few of them a few times. My TKID is only 6 weeks old)

    Have a great one,

When the pink crosses the blue it appears purple. Since blue is the dominant color, the effect is more of purple. I really don't notice the pink as pink.

I don't have a picture of myself in the MN tartan kilt, but you can see such a kilt at

    http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sadee4...&.dnm=582b.jpg

    and

    http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sadee4...a0.jpg&.src=ph

where you can also see a skirt made in the Tartan.

Those pictures were taken at the 2005 Minnesota Tartan day parade and ceremonies. I was there, and kilted, but not in MN Tartan.

The "official" pictures of the tartan at

    http://www.tartansauthority.com/web/...rtan=By+Tartan

    and

    http://www.district-tartans.com/minnesota.htm (Matt, please note)

are much darker than shown in those Tartan Day pics. I have seen Mark Osweiler, the designer of the Tartan, in a kilt similar to that in the pics, so I think the brighter colors are closer to his intent.

I was also at Tartan Day this year. There are some nice photos at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sadee4...5H85CBWgDvR_ea

I was there Friday night, but not kilted. I did get to the Riverfolk concert at Harmonic Convergence that evening--they are friends of ours.

My wife and my older son were at the Con with me so the question of con vs. family did not come up (My younger son was at a weekend camp).

Are you coming to the Minnesota Scottish Fair in Farmington this Saturday?

    MN tartan...

Check out the Minnesota Tartan Day's page about the MN tartan and the "dress" variant:

    http://www.tartandaymn.org/mntartan.html

Mark Osweiler also designed the Iowa tartan and the Iowa "dress" tartan as well:

    http://www.haggis-iowa.com/iowa_tartans.html

I would really like a kilt (or at least a scarf or something!) in the Iowa tartan, since my Scottish ancestors settled in Iowa in the mid 19th century.

    Cheers,

    Todd

    Farmington

Sorry, no. My wife and I have other plans for the weekend.

I had fun at Convergence. It was my first Con, so I had no idea what to expect. I was amazed at how quickly the time flew by.
