I've tried on Argyll/tweed jackets at a number of shops and I'm always amazed and confused by how they fit. In any local clothing store a 44 regular fits just fine. In a Scottish store the 46 feels like I'm the Incredible Hulk about to split the seams across the back and in the arms. a 48 is better but it bags around my middle. Who the heck ar they measuring for these things? I'm no body builder type but I seem to be a completely different shape than the people the jackets are being made for. I went to the Portland Highland games this last weekend and Geoffry (Tailor) was there with a display. After trying on several jackets I asked the Guy running the booth if this was a normal fitment problem and his response was that I am "a bit heavy in the arm" and I would need a custom fit. Like I said, I'm no body builder, is any body else running into this? I don't want the hassle of ordering a jacket from overseas that has to be returned for fittings.
