Since I have a woodworking shop, it was a simple matter for me to take the hangers apart, cut my own custom 16" slats from scrap lumber, and then mount them on the metal hooks. I was going to post exactly the same thing, but then I read this posting. It just goes to show how hard it is to have a really new idea. I have to say, though, that I did not simply take the cheep globally sourced hangers apart, I had much more fun using a vice and applying bending loads. I built the slats out of scrap oak, as it is quite stiff. I finished them using orange shellac and finally used self stick felt strips on the faying surfaces.
