    The original quote from Fraser & Kirkbright was for the 14 oz fabric.

    Is anyone so upset by this weight that we need to start this whole thing over?

    I will put in a call to Gordon Kirkbright in the morning, but they are all away for two weeks.

    If I get a response I will post the price differance between the 14 and 16 oz.

    I went back and checked. Allan's original announcement did read:
    Fraser & Kirkbright have quoted us a very good price as long as we have a minimum order of 25 meters. In Canadian dollars, it’s $58.30 per meter. In US Dollars at the current exchange rate that's $46.86 per meter. This is for their heavyweight kilting wool, and as a number of X Markers have reported, this is very nice stuff.
    So if people are under the impression that they are ordering heavy weight cloth, I think this issue definitely needs to be clarified before any monies are exchanged. Just in fairness to everyone....

    ACK! I thought the 14 ounce WAS their heavyweight!

    I agree with Matt, though. Everyone needs to know. I'm still good to go with the 14 ounce, personally.

    Generally, 10/11/12 oz is considered a light kilting weight, 13/14 oz is medium, and 15/16/17 oz is heavy. Anything 18 oz and above is "regimental" weight.

    14 oz weight is fine, and will make fine kilts. I just wouldn't want anyone to be expecting 16 oz and recieve 14 oz instead.

    I have just been on the phone with Gordon Kirkbright.

    He has quoted us a price of $58.00 per meter for 16 oz fabric.
    He also reminded me that there will be Canadian Goods and Services tax of 7% added to our order.

    The would bring the price to;

    $58.00 /mtr. Base cost
    $ 5.80 / mtr Handling
    $ 4.06/mtr GST
    $67.86 / mtr total

    Please remember this price is in Canadian dollars.
    At today's exchange rate that is;
    55.81 usd
    31.79 gbp
    45.88 eur

    The original price for the 14 oz. still stands with the exception of the 7% GST
    at $62.01 cdn

    Shipping will still be calculated to the address you originally told me.

    Would everyone who ordered the X Marks Tartan please contact me via PM here, or via e-mail to service@freedomkilts.com
    Let me know if you still want the 14 oz as originally agreed or if you want us all to change to 16 oz.

    I'll post the results here as soon as I've heard from everyone.

    I was fine with the original weight. 14 sounds good to me.

    Ron as spoken as well. That leaves only BikerCelt's vote before we can resolve this.

    Wait...reading your post again, the 16 ounce material is LESS expensive than the 14 ounce? eh, what? 16 ounce is $58/meter and 14 ounce is $62? Is there a typo, here? Perhaps the cost on the 16 ounce is $68 Cdn, not $58?

    The XE.com currency converter puts $68 Cdn at $55.86 USA, as of the time I made this post, which is pretty close to your conversion, so I bet that "$58 Cdn" is just a typo.

    If in fact the 16 ounce material is $68 Cdn/$55-56 USA, then the cost is only $9.50 a meter less than the custom weave that Matt told us about, months ago. That difference...$55 vs. $65 per yard/meter amounts to about $25 total cost difference for a 4 yard box pleated kilt that will cost you $350, and about $50 on an 8 yard knife-pleated kilt that will cost you about $450. In other words, it's more-or-less irrelevant.

    So personally I hope there's a typo here and folks are OK with the 14 ounce material because $47.65 is significantly less than $65 a yard, guys will save more money, and that's why I spent all the time working on this in the first place.

    But if not, then so be it. Whatever the case/price as long as it's not outrageous, I'm in for 2.5 meters so that I can get what to me is the ultimate X Marks kilt.

    I'm with you Alan. I voted for the 14 ounce simply because I live in the Arizona heat.

    But if the vote is for the 16 ounce I'm still gonna bite the bullet and get it. Love the tartan.
