Took the dogs for a walk yesterday in-between the showers. On my way back through the churchyard there was a lady and gentleman attending one of the graves. As I approached the lady looked up and stared and in astonishment said ‘Good gracious, why are you wearing THAT!’
I replied by firstly saying ‘Good Afternoon’ then I said ’That I find THAT very comfortable’.

You met the problem we all have, in that to many the sight of a kilt being worn for day to day activities is entirely outside their terms of reference.

So when they do encounter one, they are not being rude-rather amazed and questioning.

The only answer is for the kilt to be seen, so it is a normal sight on the event horizon, and so not something to be questioned.

The bright spot is that whilst once here in London such comments/questions would have been frequent-now the kilt appears to be accepted.

I'm always puzzled by the way some women go all territorial about guys and kilts. When you consider that it's now 'a womans right' to do pretty much as she pleases clothes wise (heck - lifewise !) it's odd that some of the girls think that choice is A BAD THING when it extends to men. Almost as though their toes are being trodden on.

I've encountered women like that. Usually it's the 'Nice skirt' comment with curled lip.

Skirtlike garments have been a strong visible symbol of gender inferiority, opression, submission, societal restriction, etc. for so long, some women (and amny men) just can't understand why a real man would even want to go anywhere near one. These sensitivities have been engrained on people for so long, it's extremely tough to overcome. Sceptical women simply view the kilt as an excuse for men to do a little Xdressing.

All boils down to ignorance of the facts. :rolleyes:

I agree Blu - ignorance of the facts plays a part, but I still maintain that more than a few of the opposite sex like having their own toys - which they don't want to share with us guys. Except of course for words like 'cross dresser' - when did you ever hear of that applied to a woman. The feminist movement seems to have been more about allowing women to assume male roles when it suits them and female roles when that's more rewarding than anything else...sorry - a bit O.T. there.

A bit of re-education is needed for society as a whole. Not the ramming down throat and shouting loudly type, just a little more awareness that as well as
fighting wars and getting killed daily on construction sites everywhere, guys
are actually people. Individuals. Who can wear a kilt if they so choose....

Educated in the fact that the kilt always was and still is a mans garment. Just because it has been borrowed, blenderized, bastardized, morphed for womens fashion, doesn't make it less of a mans garment.

Actually, I think part of the reason is that they are afraid we may actually be able to dress ourselves, thus losing some of the control they have over us. I don't think they could handle it if when asked "Are you going to where THAT?", we answer with a confident "You betcha!"

What we have to do is encourage them to pick out our kilts for us. That would take away their objections.
