UK Leather
Considering an 8-yard tank costs less than the UK Leather, it's not likely I'll ever get one, but I'm just curious if anybody HAS one...and how they feel. the website describes them as "damn hot".

You'll love the leather kilts, whoever you buy from.
You don't have to worry about damaging a leather kilt, lots of great places to wear them where you might hesitate to wear a traditional tank.
Moths don't eat them. A leather kilt is something to pass on to your grandkids.
I have both a UK brown leather (one hip pocket) and a RKilts saffron (buckskin to me) leather.
I like the RKilt with more pockets.
Leather kilts have kept me quite warm in snowstorms and rain, they are great for cold weather. Haven't had a problem with heat in warmer weather, in fact, what I like about wearing them in some warmth is that the leather seems to loosen up and adjust to more of a form fit on my body.
Haven't worn one out in the Arizona summer heat yet though. Wore one with no problems in Albuquerque in June.
I've a third leather kilt on my wish list...but then I'm a "kilt junkie." Do think everyone should have at least one leather kilt.
The prices are up there, but the VALUE is there for a long life or resale, whichever.
Not sure why Utilikilts doesn't put instructions on how their side corset lacing works with the kilts. I did find instrutions on the internet by searching for info on corsets. Tricky, but doable, and it ain't gonna come apart easy.
And the leather smell....;)

Leather kilts
I've got a black leather Uk and several leather Rkilts plus a couple of normal woollen ones. I would opt for the leather each time as it looks better when creased...the woollen tend to just look slovenly...that fresh out of bed and not washed looked about them(when they are creased that is before someone miscontrues my meaning)
The leather ones get the attention of other people if that be your thang plus you get remembered.

Leather kilts ...... YESSSSSS! I have the very first leather Utilikilt (UK) to be sold but it would not be fair for me to comment on its many virtues as it is not the same design as those sold today - it has none of that infernal, and rather ugly lacing at the sides. It is, however, pure bliss to wear! As, indeed, are the five other leather kilts in my 'Kollection'.
I also have a generous 6 yarder "TFCK" leather kilt, three more beauties from Union Kilts and, most recently, the superb 'R-Kilt', in British Tan.
Each one of those kilts has its own defined characteristics: they weigh differently (the Union Kilts are the lightest and the 'R-Kilt' just comes in as the heaviest); they all move/swing differently due to the very different designs and weights; some have pockets, others do not. What they DO have in common, apart from being leather(!), is fabulous, supreme comfort.
As for attracting comments: well, I find my kilts seldom court much attention, but last weekend I wore the new 'R-Kilt' to a local Craft Fair and, surprisingly, in just an hour there, three women and one man had stopped me to enquire about the kilt - none of them had ever even heard of a leather kilt, let alone seen one before. All were genuinely interested and asked sensible questions - but then, they were all 'mature' people!! The last lady, petite and probably in her early 80's, was the shyest of the four. She spoke very softly and reminded me of the little old landlady in "The Ladykillers". She asked if she might feel the leather, which she did - on my invitation. We spoke for several minutes and then, with a wicked wink, her parting shot was, "I think I need to go and find a cup of tea now. The sight of you in that kilt has made my knees feel quite weak!"
If you are thinking about a leather kilt, don't think anymore ........go for it! ;)

I'd go with the R-kilt in leather. His leather and craftmanship are superb.
The other thing is his attention to detail for size. He makes the kilts for you, it's not off the rack.
I've see too many i'll fitting kilts from others (too long, flare up at the back and just not sized right) and when you spend that kind of money, get one made for you not just people around your size. Everyone body shape is different and you can't get the proper fit unless it's made for your shape. I swear some people don't know how to measure or they just don't care as long as you buy it.
Robert cares about his kilt and will suit you up right.

D@mn the bunch of you!! *grinning*
It seems that becoming a member of this forum has the potential to seriously affect my bank balance!!!
I've been thinking about a leather kilt for several years, now. There's a local leather store (which goes by the rather imaginative name "The Leather Store") where they manufacture off-the-rack AND custom leather clothing. While they appeal largely to the biker and wannabe-biker crowd, I've had a couple of interesting conversations about the possibility of a custom-made leather kilt. Details are slowly being worked out. . .
I'm curious, on the leather kilts available from the various sources, as to the nature and number of pleats. While I don't want anything like a modified "gladiator" kilt in leather, I'm wondering about the weight and degree of comfort. Does anyone (Hamish, you seem the most experienced in this respect) here who wears leather kilts have a preference as to pleating arrangement, and if so, if you'd please add a bit of an explanation as to why?
Thanks,
Mac
