Yes,I live in Iowa. No,I'm not proud of that fact.... ....and what's worse!? I CHOSE to move here.But i digress. Hi,i'm another newbie to this site,and as all the other newbies (or at least i believe),I has me some questions! ALOT of them. I actually don't even own a kilt yet (dont kill me!) the main question I have atm. is:Where can I find one for cheap!? For my first kilt,I would simply like one,so price is my main concern,I DO want one that's made properly,however not neccisarily one that's going to last me forever. So if anyone knows of an UBER CHEAP place for kilts,PLS let me know! TY.

I've been reading posts,and there respecitve responses,and as such I think I'm going to have ALOT of questions. Like this one! : I read that someone doesn't like the cheap stillwater kilt,is there a particular reason,or is that a case of "cheaper will probably mean cheaper"? Once again,TY

I wouldn't get the economy Stillwater. There's just not much to it. It's not bad to wear around the house, but other than that no. The Standard is not bad for only a little bit more, and I understand the heavyweights are pretty nice. There's also Amerikilt for a solid non-traditional.

Of course, none will match the tailored kilt, but you're talking more bucks.

My Scots ancestors immigrated to Iowa (via Canada & Ohio) -- whereabouts in Iowa are you at? I'll be up there this weekend to see family, actually!

The stillwater standards are great for their price. I got one for my second kilt (first was a sportkilt - considering the stillwater was only $5 more, I wouldn't get another sportkilt). The heavyweight is very nice too.

I would pick a Stillwater Kilts as well. I have a Standard model and it is great for the price I paid. I also have to give them a thumbs up for speedy delivery as well. Most people will tell you that the kilt will arrive in 3-5 working days.

you may also consider to include a sporran in your budget as well. You can probably pick one up for around $30-40.

I'd recommend a Utilikilt original for a starter. But it don't make much difference where you start cause you're gonna soon own a LOT of kilts. They be addictive.

You're kinda like a kid who never had a candy bar before asking which one to taste first...

Thanks everyone for the help! At this point,there's very little doubt in my mind that i'm going to go with a stillwater kilt to start,however I'm still unclear as to why I shouldn't get the "Economy kilt". If anyone has some insight,please let me know.

Just get the standard. The economy is good for about one wear... And then it's only fit to wear around the house and no where else. It's a little... flimsy.

The standard Stillwater is the best deal in a real kilt. Period. Do a little searching on the board.
