My wife, parents and I are making a whirlwind trip to North Central Iowa for an impromptu family reunion, and we won't be over by Iowa City this time around. I hope to make it to Cedar Rapids someday to attend one of their Scottish Society functions.

    TY,

    WELCOME!

Iowa has given me many friends and relatives, and now I have a kilted lover among them.

Stillwater Standard is a fine kilt, I have no problems with mine, but somehow you cannot stop at just one kilt.

    Again welcome.

    Four months huh..
That would put you in both pheasant & duck season. My dogs & I would be honored to come visit & discuss kilts.

Years ago, I passed through Des Moines during a cross-country hitchhiking trip. I recall it being one of the nicer parts of the country.

    Welcome!

One way to get a cheaper kilt that's the bee's knees is to make it yourself or have someone make it for you. I know this sounds self-serving, but, if you want to do this, you could buy the book "The Art of Kiltmaking" that I wrote (see why it sounds self-serving??). But , at any rate, that's an option. You can order the book at http://www.celticdragonpress.com

Some of the guys on this forum have gotten the book and done very fine jobs of making their own kilts, so it does work!!

    Cheers!

Barbs book is GREAT! Anyone that wants to try making their own kilt should have it. Best investment I've made since I took up sewing.

I have the book and I'm presently waiting for two tartan cloths to arrive so I can start into it (that is, I plan to make two kilts, not one kilt with two tartans...). I'll keep everyone information as I make progress (or the lack thereof because I have very little sewing experience), but I wont actually be starting for several weeks.
