I was Parris Island, 3rd Battalion, I Co. back in 1991. Spent my tour at Cherry Point as an Air Traffic Controller.
Let us know how the kilt is received in Turkey. Also make sure you register on the Kilt Map Project

Well...
Looks good to me however because you asked if you are wearing it "RIGHT" I will switch to Kilt Police mode.
Nitpick mode on:
Pull up your kilt 4 inches, yeah looks stupid but that is how you are supposed to wear it, 2 inches above the belly button.
In the first photo you appear to be not wearing the belt, fixed in the later pics, the rule is if you wear a jacket, you don't need the belt.
Sporran, it is hairy, hair covered sporrans would be worn with black tie (very formal) Plain black sporrans are worn with black belts and black shoes and are thus the sort of things that you would wear with a four-in-hand tie.
Brown belt, brown shoes and a brown sporran would go better with that shirt you are wearing.
Flashes too long roll them under once.
Kilt hose you might want to go with a color as white might or might not be correct, I still am not sure what the rules are on white socks, try blue, green, or oatmeal.
Nitpick mode off:
Not a bad first try, better than mine was.
Do not feel bad, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales got his *** chewed by a World War II Veteran for not wearing his kilt right about six months ago.
Which I beleive is loony, Charles grew up in a kilt. The Tartan Police are everywhere and they do not know all of the rules and half of that is wrong.
Welcome to the kilted ranks.

Normally I wouldn't say much, but since you're asking, here's what I would do differently, other than things that have already been mentioned (some of this stuff is personal preference, some of it stuff I've heard from different sources. None of it is gospel):
Wear the belt right up along the edge of the kilt. Don't let the kilt show over the top edge of the belt.
Fold the hose tops down further. The popcorn tops should reach down to where the pattern on the hose changes from Aren to plain. They should be a couple of inches short of the knee.
Cover up as much of the flashes with the hosetops as possible without folding them. Less is more.
Move the flashes forward about half-way to the front of your shin.
Continue to tie the laces up under the flashes, but don't tie them so high up your leg. Wrap them from front to back just over your ankle, then back to the front just a little higher.
Align the sgain dubh right above the right flashes. No need to have more than the very top inch or so sticking out.
The highland dress is distinctive enough. There's no reason to exaggerate everything.
Nice kilt, btw.

It is my understanding that the convention with the jacket is more along the line of whether or not you're wearing a waistcoat (vest) with your jacket: if you're wearing a Prince Charlie and waistcoat or Argyle with a waistcoat, the belt buckle generally makes the points of the waistcoat stick forward, so the belt is not worn.
On the other hand, if you're wearing an Argyle type jacket without a waistcoat, the belt is generally worn.
My personal opinion about the ghillie brogues is that to me, they look like a fairly dressy, formal shoe, so I tend not to wear them unless I'm at least wearing a jacket and tie (semi-formal or more formal). Otherwise, I'll wear plain shoes or boots.
Sporran chain -- don't know how much you've delved into the riches of this forum -- and there are a LOT of very knowledgeable folks that hang out here -- the silver chain you have is very appropriate for the full-dress sporran you have, but as you consider more casual sporrans for day wear with your other (future) kilts (the only known remedy to the kilt addiction is to feed it with more kilts! ) you will probably want to request a leather sporran strap, as it causes less friction and wear on the kilt than the metal chain.
On an entirely different topic, my thanks to you for your willingness to serve your country! (Also, to others here who serve or have served.) My son is just finishing up his four-year tour with the USMC in about one month. Still trying to get him into a kilt.
Regards,
Mark

Semper Fi Erik,
That mini K Bar is from Kathy's Kilts. Their son is a Marine too. If its not on their website www.kathyskilts.com then email and ask about it.
Tell them I sent you...she's sewing up my second and third traditional for me.
And, thanks for asking the basic questions, I learned some stuff.

Looks just fine to me However.
Your ghillie shoe laces seem to wander up your leg. I never like that effect.. However that just my opinion.
The sporran as all have said should really be for dress only as are the popcorn hose you are wearing (Just my opinion). Get yourself a long pair of plain ski boot socks if you can't get hose
The overall effect is rather good ...and hey!what does it matter joe Public will just see a great looking bloke in a kilt anyway
Have fun.

Eirk,
It is good to see you got the kilt. The last time we spoke, you were still waiting on it. I hope all is well.

Erik 9.9 out of ten !! dont worry about the belt it looks cool, normally you wear a belt with and argylle jacket and not with a prince charlie.
Normally only pipers wear white socks, so cream or a contrasting colour to your kilt would be OK.
youve laced your shoes a little high ond your socks need to be a fraction lower, but its lookng pretty good!!
