Celtic Croft questions
First, anyone have a homespun economy? How does the homespun look?
I have seen several references to their sporran belts and sporrans, yet I do not see a link on the site. Am I missing something?

The very first kilt I bought was a homespun economy from the Celtic Croft. It's worked great for me, although I don't really wear it anymore, since I lost a little weight and HAVE to wear a belt with it (otherwise everyone would know what I wear under it!). I can't compare it with a tank because I don't have one yet.
There is a link to the sporrans once you click on the accessories link at the side.

Davedove, I'd sure like to hear more about that homespun economy kilt.
I went to Celtic Croft early on when I was looking into a possible source for X Marks tartankilts, and they were sort of OK, but not great at the e-mail communications exchange.

I'd be happy to answer any questions I can Alan. You can PM if you'd like.
I've always had good responses from Lorrie Croft. She has always been prompt to inform me about order status, especially if there will be a delay of any sort. Besides the economy kilt, I've also ordered a great kilt, their philabeg, and a few accessories.

Davedove, I'd be interested in one of the special order economy kilts, because they have it in Ulster Red. I can't justify a "tank" in an Ulster tartan, which is usually the only option since kiltmakers have to buy the Ulster tartans in pretty expensive material. However, Celtic Crofts economy kilt is in homespun, and they have the Ulster Red! Yahoo! I could maybe scrape up the bucks in a couple of months for one of their economy kilts.
How's the construction and fit and all?

Here's the economy:

A view of the pleats:

The pleats are all uniform and about three inches deep. They are stiched down about eight inches from the top. The straps and buckles are pretty average. It fit really well when I first got it, but it's kind of loose now since I lost a few inches. As I said, I can't compare it to other wool kilts yet, but it's pretty decent quality. All in all, not a bad kilt for the money.
