Got your book right here Barb, and yeah, that does look real nice. My wife likes purple, maybe this will help her get over the "god he looks stupid in that thing" ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Thanks for the heads up about the pic. I'd have gone through the pics and all and folded it every which way to see what looks good, but I like the look of how it's pleated in the book there.
Oh, and it's 60" wide according to mom

I think you'd be looking at $42-$45 a yard, new, if it's the double-width, but that's based on what I think I've seen. The makers here are probably better equipped to give you the most up-to-date information.

All I can say is:
1 - Where did she get it?
2 - How much per yard?
3 - Would she buy and ship some to some of us kilted cranks? At our expense of course.

You might even pay up to $60 a yard.

Just checked your book for weight (hoping a definition for what the weight of a fabric is was in there) and I noticed 'wool saxony' - I'm thinking, and paranoid that, this is a wool saxony. My mom's not too well versed on tartans. She tells me it's worsted wool. I'm hoping she knows what shes talking about in that regard. No way to know. Tick tock. I should just drive up there and get it, but my luck she put it in the mail today.

Saxony feels a little fuzzy and kind of soft, not hard and smooth like kilting fabric. But, it's not a bad material to make your first kilt out of. You'll have to deal with a little pilling over time and press it more often, but it's a good place to start!! And, if the price was right, who cares?
The second kilt I made was in wool saxony - got it in Wallace tartan at Joann Fabrics for about $6 a yard. I just wanted to practice, and it made a great-looking kilt that one of our dancers wore for many years.

No, no. It will never work for you. But I, being the good sport that I am, will offer you $50 for the length just to take it off your hands.
Think about pleating it to the stripe - if you look on the last page of color pics in my book, you'll see the Black Stewart pleated to the stripe. Lots of bands do it this way, and it is _really_ sharp, with a purplish cast across the back opening to black when you walk.
Now don't go looking at any pictures. You'll just get unrealistic ideas. $50 cash. Jump on it.

One for Matt Newsome maybe?
I enlarged the previously posted pic and pose two questions...and though the tartan looks like a Stewart Black, it doesn't seem to match the thread counts on the different versions I've seen of this tartan.

Maybe it's just artistic license at play on the mill's end? Matt...where are you?

Good point. The missing blue is obvious, but the white lines that should be yellow are odd, because the matching line in the horizontal IS yellow.
Once I receive the tartan I'll take better pics. My mom sent me that, and she has an "ebay camera" - one that takes ok pics for listing on ebay... the image I posted is the original size she took it at. My 5MP camera will do a better job. I'll also be able to see if it's a "real" tartan or a saxony or some cotton blend... giving the benefit of the doubt to mom, she says it's worsted.
God I hate waiting... and if she didnt put it in the mail today... grr...
