    alma mater tartan

Something I was asked in an IM got me thinking: I wonder if UCLA has a tartan? Well, no, but Univ. of Calif. Riverside does --and they are in the UCAL colors blue and gold. Check out this tartan:

I would love to have a kilt made of this tartan!

Any kilt makers have any of this stuff? (Oh my God I sound like a junkie!)

Looks sharp. Have you tried contacting the UCLA Bookstore. The university bookstores usually control all the trademark type stuff. They might know...if you ask for the bookstore manager, not the students working there part time.

    And...

Always wondered "if" or "why not?" Fraternities don't have tartans. Particularly mine - Alpha Sigma Phi - if there are any kilted brothers out there.

Most of these kinds of specialty tartans aren't readily available from a Scottish Mill and are woven in batches for the people who order them (like the Riverside Pipe Band). So, your best bet is to contact the people who are currently wearing the tartan to find out where they either got the tartan or their kilts. If you find the tartan and decide to get it, just be sure that you ask what the weight is.

The scan of the tartan itself is beautiful, but it sure doesn't look much like the picture of the Riverside band kilts!
