Thanks for posting this Millar.
I have been eyeing the Stillwater heavy weight too considering that winter is coming soon. All I have now is the canvas kilt that started this addiction & I don't think I want to wear it when the temp. is in the teens or lower.

I own worsted wool traditional heavyweight kilts as well as a SW shadow "heavyweight". Speaking honestly, while I think the SW shadow is great for the money, it is not what I would call a true winter weight kilt and probably wouldn't be much protection on a bitter northern winter day. First of all the shadow kilts are 6 yards instead of 8, therefore the pleats are not as deep and do not overlap with as much fabric, and the fabric doesn't have the same density as worsted wool. Don't get me wrong... they are a good value for the money, but don't be mislead into thinking your getting the equivalent of an 8 yard wool heavyweight suitable for arctic conditions. The only way to get the protection of worsted wool is to pay for worsted wool. Actually I'm kinda wating to see what's coming down the pipe in the SW "heavyweight" line.
