anyone live in the area who would be interested in a meetup?

I might go if we had one. I have gone up for local sword meets at The Rose and Thistle a few times before. Lucky they are sword friendly. I figured that next time I go I will wear a kilt.
Anyway, if we could gather a few more people we might be able to make a gathering.

I know of two other kilt wearers through the sword meets and the associated sword forum. However one of them says he has one great kilt and a wee kilt (philabeg I presume). So I think he is more of the kilt as a costume for highland games and ren faires school of thought. The other said he will be wearing his buchanan to Blade Show West, which I will be going to. But he is from somewhere in washington and portland is no small drive for him.
If it ends up just being the three of us it will make for a pretty sorry gathering. But hey, the last PVAG (portland vancouver area gathering- the sword meet) had me, my brother, the wee kilt guy above, and a college student/amature sword maker, and that was it. That is only 4 and we were there talking, and showing swords, and eating for probably 3+ hours.

One thing to note is that we can't go anywhere that doesn't allow minors (under 21). I am only 18 and even if the waiters/bartenders won't serve me alcohol many places wont even let me in.

I'm a member of Bailey Academy in Oregon City www.baileysacademy.com so I like swords almost as much as I like kilts. There are a number of younger fellows there that may be interested in a gathering. I'll mention it at class Monday night.
Jamie
PS I am, however 18 several times over!

WHOA, I've been looking for some sort of WMA in this area. Ok, so Oregon City isn't really close to me and with school starting monday and the pontential of a job pretty soon would hamper any attempt at practicing, but it is cool that there is more in this area other than the McDojos, and the little bit of fencing to be found. Have you been over to SFI? (swordforum.com)
If we decide to show off swords at whatever gathering we throw together someplace like the rose and thistle (we even got the scotch theme going for us) that is sword friendly would be preferable.

There's an ARMA study group in Portland, I think - if not, there are definitely quite a few members who might be interested in forming a study group.
If you want more on ARMA, visit the site above or feel free to PM me.

There's a group out of Portland that's going to start their "off season" pub crawls. The group is Celtic International Families or some such thing and they have monthly Pub Crawls in the months where there are no Highland Games. The next one will be in Vancouver on October 15th They'll meet at 7 p.m. at the Salmon Creek Pub and Brewery, 108 W. Evergreen Blvd, 360-993-1827 and from there they'll go to McMenamin's East, 1900 N.E. 162nd & 18th Ave, 360-254-3950. I went to a couple of these last year. The folks are nice enough and they do have a piper or two who show up to play for them, but they are members of an existing group and you have to be a bit outgoing or you can feel an outsider. I checked and under 21 is okay at Salmon Creek until 9 p.m. and McMenamin's is a restraunt so under 21 is okay outside the bar area. I think I'll wander by and check it out. Anybody else interested?
