    Thanks much!

Thanks for digging up those pictures! I really appreciate it. I was getting ready to order some boots, and wanted to not order the tall ones if they didn't look good. But, from those pictures, I can see that they look great!

Goodness! I just looked at the price on those bad boys. For the price of one pair I can purchase a handmade traditional kilt and several pair of Minnatonka <sp> moc-boots and get change back. http://store.yahoo.com/onlineslipper...nnetonka2.html

You're right, to get my custom made boots, which I have to do because of my calf size, it will be over $500. Yeah, I could have bought a traditional kilt for that.

    Knee Boots

You're right about the expense. I purchased a pair of boots about 10 years ago. I don't even remember what I paid for them, but I know it was over $500.

Of course, since the boots are custom made, they are extremely comfortable - much more so than the Minnetonka Moccasins, (I have a pair of those, too), and the leather is much thicker.

I got mine from Catskill Mountain Moccasins.

Mine are also from Catskill and I waited for over 20 years before I got them, but man are they comfortable. And they'll last infinitely longer than the Minnetonkas (have a pair of those too and there is no comparison). Of course, the Catskill's cost A LOT. Because of the custom work in mine they are close to $1000, but I do like them a lot.

I've ordered mine from SodHoppers in Oregon. As part of the process, you make a duct tape "cast" of your foot that he uses as a pattern, so they are truly custom fit. They are a little over $500 and he promises delivery in three weeks, which means I'll have mine in about two.

    Mocs

That's how the guys did it from Catskill as well.

He traced my feet to determine which was larger, and the created a duct tape cast of it. Several weeks later, they were at my doorstep.

    They are very comfortable.

I never thought I would have posted on this thread, mostly because I don't have the money to afford both good kilts and good boots! However, I am struck by the similarity between the exchange regarding the cost of boots and people's value of them and thinking in their long term durability. This also was one of the arguments on the Kilts, The Wise Financial Choice thread. Not sure it changes my mind one way or the other about the definition of a kilt, but interesting that this thread hit on the same issue at a similar point in time.
