WHOA, I've been looking for some sort of WMA in this area. Ok, so Oregon City isn't really close to me and with school starting monday and the pontential of a job pretty soon would hamper any attempt at practicing, but it is cool that there is more in this area other than the McDojos, and the little bit of fencing to be found. Have you been over to SFI? (swordforum.com)

If we decide to show off swords at whatever gathering we throw together someplace like the rose and thistle (we even got the scotch theme going for us) that is sword friendly would be preferable.

There's an ARMA study group in Portland, I think - if not, there are definitely quite a few members who might be interested in forming a study group.

If you want more on ARMA, visit the site above or feel free to PM me.

There's a group out of Portland that's going to start their "off season" pub crawls. The group is Celtic International Families or some such thing and they have monthly Pub Crawls in the months where there are no Highland Games. The next one will be in Vancouver on October 15th They'll meet at 7 p.m. at the Salmon Creek Pub and Brewery, 108 W. Evergreen Blvd, 360-993-1827 and from there they'll go to McMenamin's East, 1900 N.E. 162nd & 18th Ave, 360-254-3950. I went to a couple of these last year. The folks are nice enough and they do have a piper or two who show up to play for them, but they are members of an existing group and you have to be a bit outgoing or you can feel an outsider. I checked and under 21 is okay at Salmon Creek until 9 p.m. and McMenamin's is a restraunt so under 21 is okay outside the bar area. I think I'll wander by and check it out. Anybody else interested?

As this gets closer I am seriously thinking about going. My only issues are that I will be "working" all day (sitting drinkin coffee while the three vans for work are being serviced one at a time) and I have church the next day.

I'm really not much of an outgoing person and I tend to come off wrong to most people. I might show up, I might not. If I do it will give me a chance to see if I have been wearing the kilt right or not.

Do come if you can. I'm not very out-going myself, and I'm not part of this group, I just tag along. I have long hair in a pony tail and a beard, weigh about 200 lbs, and I'll be wearing either Anderson of Gordan tartan. Don't be shy, come on out and say Hi.

    Hey there

My mother and Sister in law came into town today from Brasil, so I'll HIGHLY suggest and encourage everyone to all go there tomorrow night!
    If I don't show up, that means I was out-voted :-(

    Hope I can make it

ok, I am going to show up. My shirt and socks are in the dryer now and I will leave around 5:30 (hopefully) I might be a little late but we were helping some friends move and time got away from us. I have long hair in a pony tail and will be wearing a SWK black stewart.

Checking google it looks like the two locations are half way across town. I have directions from google but still, 11 miles through vancouver.

It was ok. There was a piper who played, in the relatively small room, but it was still good. You really get to find out the ranges that each ear can hear with bagpipes. I was a little out of place being 18 when most of the others were 40s to 50s (not sure if some were older and there may have been one person in their 30s). But it wasn't so much a kilt night as just a gathering for an irish celtic group. But I was welcomed, the outsider that I was.

We decided not to go to McMenamins since the people at the pub enjoyed (or at least tolerated) the pipes and we were kinda settled in. Overall the conversations were not celtic/kilt specific, people talked about laying a sidewalk, about work, motocycles, mechanical engineers, what their organization does, and that is just what was brought up where I could hear it.
