What I was trying to find out was if there was a kilt as comfortable to wear (and in the same price range) and as easy to maintain, as the 12 year old athletic shorts I wear.
Yes, they are. Now it even further pushes the boundary of "What is a kilt". Even I think the spartan is a skirt (I wear mine around the house, and it is the most comfortable thing I have ever worn). Bsically it is like the athletic shorts that I see guys wearing these days, but with no crotch.

Wash and wear (and like any kilt needs less washing than pants).

Steve, ideally no more than the shorts that it replaces! However, I realize that is not realistic given what is entailed in making a kilt. I would probably be willing to spend $30-$40. I keep saying that I am going make a kilt, this might be the perfect project. Need to run by the fabric store tonight and see what they have. I know what I am looking for, just need see what kind of fabric is available.

Adam, I had not seen the Spartan on UK's wite. Just took a look. It looks like they are similar to what I am looking for, although the only color that would work for me is the black. They do look very skirt like, and in the red and green I would feel like I was trying out as a cheerleader! No prices on the UK site, and I can't give them a call right now. Anybody know the price?

They're $95 for smaller sizes (I think the price goes up after XL). It doesn't wrap, you step in (hence why more skirt like), but it has the same pleats and apron look of other UK's. I've only seen black in person, I think purple is coming.

    cheap kilts

If you want some really cheap kilts about £30 sterling. Try a bid on ebay, there are loads to choose from. I use a company called tartan54 have bought several sports kilts for just casual and have been surprisingly good quality considering the price.
