Aw! Guys and Gals, you make me blush! I have a feeling that I'm hijacking this thread now, so I'll be brief.

Thank you all for your compliments. One just does one's best whenever one can. I really do believe that if I dress like a scruff, then I should expect to be treated like a scruff and, since scruffs are seldom taken seriously or are even avoided, I do my utmost to take every care with my appearance (always checking in a full-length mirror before leaving the house) - especially in public. Perhaps that is vanity, but I don't think so.

Graham: Yes, I have worn the GT Doublet (it is not really a Montrose) a couple of times, that's all. I am not invited to that many 'Dress' events nowadays, nor did I expect to be when I ordered it, but I like to be prepared for any eventuality all the same. One never knows when one is going to be invited to one of Hyacinth's 'Candlelit Suppers'!! ;)

    Ham,

I totally agree with you, I think the ghillies pull the eyes away from the kilt and add a costume look to the outfit.

I like well polished black wingtips.

One of the many reasons that I chose to wear the kilt at all is that I do not want to look like every other male attending a function and so, if I am able to avoid even that kilted uniform look by not wearing those ridiculous ghillies, I will do so! I should rather like a pair of the buckled, formal dress-shoes but I just never seem to get around to doing anything about it!
I'm with you Hamish. When the budget allows, I'm going to invest in some of the buckled Culloden shoes myself.
