Source for saffron or green wool/pv?

I'm just curious here, does anyone have a source for saffron-ish or green wool or pv, suitable for making a kilt?

I would like to make something from one or the other, but have no idea where to look for suitable material.

    Thanks!

If you want to go with wool, I can get green or saffron from the same mill that weaves our tartans. You'll pay the same price as you will for tartan cloth, though. :-)

If you are interested, email or PM me and I can send you a list of available weights and prices.

I just bought six, double-wide yards of 14 ounce saffron wool for $24.00

You just need to get into the yellow pages and find fabric shops or suppliers in your region. You don't need to hit the big chain stores since they'll charge whatever they want. There are others that will sell material on consignment, or are buyers of overstocks. You can try to "google" it too.

I'm just real fortunate to have seven in New York, two in Philly, three in Baltimore and one in Scranton. The MOST that I pay for great quality wool is $7.00 per yard, and that often includes tartans. I also picked-up five yards of Davidson and five yards of MacDonald for $20 each on the same trip.

    Hey Chasem,

Check with Bear at Bear Kilts...think he has poly material in saffron, to make kilts from. Not sure about selling the cloth though.

I seem to remember Bear saying that for one reason or another he was unable to ship fabric [over the border maybe?] without some sort of license.

And Jimmy, thanks for the tip there as well, I'll have a look around.

SO Jimmi, where'd you get the saffron wool at $24 yd?
I'm in NYC & don't know where to go.
Tried the Bear & he's got tartans only.
So, for the 2nd pt of my request, for a kilt sans pleats do I need 8 yds or can I do with 5 or 6?
    Thanks boys

    DocKAT 123,

Please note that the thread your responded to was from way back in 2005. Jimmy Carbomb has not been around here for quite a few years.

Trying to find sources for good Kilt fabrics is the bane of the new Kiltmaker.

You can do what the rest of us do and contact the same weavers we do in Scotland and England.

One of the best sources at a reasonable price is Marton Mills.

Another source would be Lochcarron which has offices in both the US and Canada. Try
