Andrew,
As one of those responsible for the quality of that Pete's Coffee bag (that's just one of dozens of laminated packaging materials put out by my flexographic press), I can assure you that there should have been no need (unless it was opened) for you to stash it in your sporran. Better safe than sorry? Amusing pic anyway.

I STUFF mine postively full to bursting. I have to get a bigger sporran.
What's in my sporran during the usual workday?
big keyring with about 20 keys on it.
TWO cell phones...work and personal
wallet
pocketknife (I use a yachting rigging knife)
comb
mess 'o spare change rattling in the bottom
If the work cell phone works its way down to the bottom it's pretty funny to watch me try to answer a call!

MacSimoin, I could see that the bag was laminated, but I saw snowflakes the size of my thumb melting all over it and I just wanted to be safe. :-D
I could easily fit everything except the coffee in any other sporran (well, my semi-formal sporran is pretty thin, but when I wear that I get jacket pockets to redistribute things). Maybe I should start putting my hip flask in my sporran.... Nah, then I'd look like a drunk.... ;)
Andrew.

The coffee bags (along with fertilizer bags and more) we produce are 'waterproof'---they have to be to a certain degree (i.e., tensile strengths, etc, all required by law) and they go through extensive testing to ensure higher-than-industry-standards of quality. We wouldn't be Starbuck's sole supplier (since they first offered their coffee in consumer-ready packaging) if we didn't put out the best product available. Anyway...
Keep that hip flask in your jacket pocket: That will hurt like you-know-what if you happen to get too drunk and fall down face-first...Your sporran will more than likely hit the ground before your face does and I think you realize the ramifications of falling while carrying a hard metal object in your sporran. I don't think your "better half" would approve. ;)

Perhaps one could purchase a "Sporran Buddy"...a slightly smaller sporran that could be worn on the side or on the back of the belt? Have I hit on a new market here? Sound like we're turning it into Batman's utility belt. Maybe two matching sporrans worn like six-gun holsters on crossed sporran belts...very bandito-esque...
"Clan badges? ...we don't need no steenking clan badges!"
The older I get, the more crap I have to carry...reading glasses...cell phone...sunglasses...when the kids were babies my multi-pocketed photo vest became the diaper and bottle vest.
best

Out and about with my mk 3 sporran means carrying a Mobile, Coin Purse, Wallet, Pen, notebook, Multitool and or Swiss Army Knife, Torch, Keys. Fuji 601 Digi Camera, GPS and not forgetting A wee dram. I have carried all of this on a few hill walks and realized afterwards that a rucsac would have been a better idea!
HAPPY KILTING
