Aye Ham,
'tis SO SAD to see technology overwhelm craftsmanship and service in so many areas.

Can I use these shoes for dress purposes?
They're brogues, not ghillie brogues though...

Robin,
I do use them for dress occasions, and find that no one says anything to me about it. However unfortunately, I am not known for my great fashion sense.

I've seen several pictures of guys wearing those with kilts. Many were posted on these boards. I think it looks fine, personally.

Robin, those wingtip shoes are quite accaptable for dress occasions.
I bought a pair of ghillie brogues, but almost wish I hadn't. The laces are a pain in the posterior.

Ah! So those are Wingtips! I've asked previously and been told what they were but I could not visualise them accurately - Wingtips is not a name we use here in the United Kingdom.
Yes, those are black brogue shoes, Robin, and I always wear them when formally dressed, and sometimes when not so formally dressed! I am one of those who loathes the ghastly ghillie brogues and, in almost sixty years of kilt wearing at all levels of formality I have never felt obliged to try them. There is nothing 'traditional' about them since they are an invention of the Victorian age.
