Not as good a deal as you've found at e-bay, but the leather is so soft and sturdy, really high quality stuff: it might be worth a look.
Bryan...gosh, I feel like I'm contributing now...
Bryan, thanks for the Craigie link. And he is located near my preferred stomping grounds! He is in Punta Gorda and we heve lived in Tampa or FL for most of our lives. Just doing a little sidetrack in chicago right now due to the job situation. Might have to try and get by there at Xmas if there is an actual store.

Bill, we would have missed you by a few years then. We were last there in '92. Might be back to central FL next year, I hope!

KCW,
I would be nice to have another kilted person in this part of Florida.
By the way, I am fairly certain that Craigie is a she, not a he.

Oops! :o:o
Craigie, if you watch this board, my sincerest apologies!
Bill, we will probably be back down to Orlando in the Spring to warm up and do a Disney adventure. Maybe we can hook up then.

John, like this? I actually had a moment of weakness last night and went ahead and bought this one. I figure if it is 16oz, then we might have a source for some less expensive kilts, and if it does not live up, I can return it, no questions asked, and only be out shipping. Even if it is not 16oz, if it is decently made, I will probably keep it because it was a good price and I like the tartan. And since I am confessing, I actually had 2 moments of weakness with eBay yesterday, the other is here! Somebody stop me before I kilt again!!

So KCW-you're running around 7 kilts now? Do you have a tank yet? Here is a modest proposal: hide the credit cards from yourself untill you find a good deal on a used tank, or untill you've saved enough to buy a new tank of your preference. You've got enough tackle to wear a different kilt everyday now, why not try a "wooly bully" for a change?
Bryan...at least then you'll know if they're up your alley or not...

Bryan SHHHH, somebody else might know where I live and try to steal them! However to answer your question, the count stands at 1 SK (which is strictly around the house), 2 SWK's (standard and HW), 1 AK, a USAK semi-traditional, UK mocker scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, 2 PK's, and the 2 I ordered last night so (a drum roll please...) .... theoretically I know "own" 10 kilts (check that math!), but only have possession of 6 (which is my real problem, that instant gratification thing!). On the plus side, I only used credit for the 2 of them, the rest were either un-earmarked cash, or from selling some old PC equipment I no longer had a need for.
As for a traditional tank, for me the jury is still out. I like the looks of my USAK semi-trad from Rocky, the closest thing I have to a tank, but I am not altogether sure I like wearing one that high. For a formal or more dressy occasion, it will be the only thing I would consider. I think that the USAK is very well made, I love the tartan, and the material is first rate. All that being said, the kilt I enjoy wearing the most is my tan AK, although my SWK standard is a close second. I like where it rides, the way it looks, it has pockets, and sells for a good price. The only drawbacks are the weight, both from a wind and cold perspective, and the fact that it wrinkles fairly easily. The snaps help quite a lot with the wind though. Basically, I am trying to say that I am not altogether sure that I would be happy with a tank because of where it is supposed to be worn. I did see a blue tweed tank from TFCK at the Celtic festival that "appeared" to be designed to be worn lower and I would like to look into that. For me, I have to like the way it looks first, like how it fits second (which includes where that particular kilt is designed to be worn), and feel that the price is a good value for what I receive. I am not looking for the cheapest thing on the market, but I have to feel comfortable that I will get at least as much wearing out of a kilt as I paid for it.
Anyway, this has rambled a bit as I have been multi-tasking by responding to this during lulls in the on-line class I am taking for my Masters. Need to run now and finish the class.

KCW,
Since your going to be in Tampa for Christmas go to this store. www.dunedinscottish.com. I was there a couple of years ago and the shop was pretty neat. I was looking for Highland Dance stuff for my girls but they have alot of Kilts on hand. You could try on a real tank there. They also had books and books of Tartans for you to look at.
