I love how the posts on this board ebb and flow into related and unrelated topics! Who would have thought that my initial post on a tartan I trumped up on a whim would lead John to somebody who could possibly answer a question about his son wearing a kilt in the USAF? I love this board! And in case anybody thinks that I am being facetious, I am not. I love this board and the interaction that takes place.

Guys, yall are making me blush. :-)

Graham, glad you enjoy the Scottish Banner articles. That reminds me, I've a deadline fast approaching for next month! I need to get cracking!

About the USAF tartan, most of the popular US military tartans (with the exceptions of the Leatherneck and the Edzell) are proprietary tartans of Strathmore Woolen Mill, which means that you need to get them from a retailer who works with Strathmore. That's good, because lots of Highland Dress retailers order from them.

The down side is that most of their military tartans are only produced in light weight (11 oz) cloth. A couple of them are produced in medium weight (13 oz), but I don't think the Air Force is one of them. I can double check, but I just looked into this for someone last week, and I'm pretty sure that's what I found.

I know that Alexis Malcolm can get the Army tartan in 13 oz., but I don't know about the others.

    Usaf

Talked to my commander today and he didnt think that anybody would say anything about it, but is going to send a memo up to head quarters to get a final answer. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, i've been looking for awhile for an AF tartan. Hope to make it myself. As for the kilt night at the celtic tavern, will deffinately try to stop by. I'll be coming back from a hunt/fishing trip and will have to hurry as my wife hasn't seen me in a while and its hard to convince her to let me by a kilt when she's mad at me! again thanks for the advice.
