I have to scratch my head and think about the Prince Charlie in leather but the pipers doublet sounds cool, although I might tone it down and loose some of bling bling that is on the doublet.

My opinion is that the Prince Charlie jacket is strictly for formal wear, and making it out of leather, or especially denim, would just be a bad idea.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people who would like to have a casual wear kilt jacket, but don't necessarily want a tweed or other woolen jacket. Perhaps he could work on a more casual style of kilt jacket in leather or denim.

I also think an inexpensive source of diced hose in different colors is sorely needed.

Just my opinion, but I would think that with a style similar to a PC or Argyle, both of which are for a more formal cut style, that either in denim or leather would not look very good at all and may border on silly. Besides, who wants to wear a hot leather jacket at a formal event? We already have PC's and Argyle's in a good fabric, why f**k with it?

Now to come up with a new style jacket which could perhaps be used informally in either material may be a better solution. A jacket that could be adaptable to modern casual and even informal events could be of good use to alot of the kilt wearers here. Will they be excepted at a Burn's dinner or Caledonia ball? Not likely, but neither would a leather or denim PC. We have gotten new style kilts in alternative fabrics (Bear, USAK) and design (FK, UK, etc) why not a new style jacket that fits the specs of kilt wearing (ie don't mess with the pleats) to go with these kilts, and available in a few varieties of fabric.

I'm having a tough time with this.

First off I would not go for it personally. It somehow does not seem right to have jackets and the like in leather.

Now I will go along with Matt in saying that a more casual denim or leather jacket may be a good idea.

I agree with the others who have said a PC in leather would not be very good.

However, adapting a crail jacket in leather could be interesting though I probably would not wear leather due to cost, heat and risk of damage to the finish.

I think we also have to be careful that it doesn't appear that the Village People are adding a Piper to the band

I'd be interedted in a denim jacket, just not the full PC cut. However, what I'd really like is a cheap tweed jacket. The only kilt cut tweed seems to be based on the Argyle style and are still over $200, which I think is a little silly since I can go to men's wearhouse and get a tweed blazer for under $100, it's just too long to wear with a kilt.

I'm not much in favour of a Prince Charlie, but I think a "casual" jacket in leather say along the lines of the No 2 Dress KD as worn by Highland regiments in India and MELF might work.

I am young and hotheaded, and don't give a rat's **** about fashion, so I personally am all in favor of the leather PC. If nothing else it would turn some heads. the only problem I can see is that with a leather PC, you'd need a leather kilt, and with that probably a leather fly plaid, and formal sporran that still had the whole leather look without being a casual daywear sporran. Plus I'm not sure regular hose would compliment a completely leather outfit...

No doubt the Men's Warehouse can hook you up with a tailor to recut the bottom of the jacket. Better yet, I have little doubt that their own on-site tailor will be pleased to fit you up in grand style.
