David, exactly what happened I don't know but everyone except Joe left the band and formed a new one. I hear Joe is planning on restarting Clann an Drumma with all new people but I doubt it'll work. I've never heard of a band losing that many of it's people and surviving. It must have been a dandy of a fight to prompt everyone to walk out.

Bubba, actually Joe Mackenzie was the only Clann an Drumma member left. The other members left to form the Albannach band. Joe claims to have some new members signed on to replace the others and apparently Clann an Drumma will move on from here.
Albannach should be about ready to take the floor at the Sheriffmuir Inn, as I type this.

Mike, all I'm saying is I've never seen a band take this kind of hit and come back. I hope Joe does manage to do it but I'm not optimistic. On the other hand Alabanach are used to working together and should do great. As for the reason for the breakup, I'm clueless.

I knew this was all happening, it's ashame about the split, but these things happen.
I wish both bands the very best, I suspect the music will be similar tho' there may be a need for a change of direction for Joe, musically.
Mike do you know what Albannach means? Alba=Scotland right?

Graham, Albannach literally translates to Scotsman, or one from Scotland.

Graham (Ah, I resisted the temptation this time!),
There is a large (and rather expensive!**) Scottish Wine/Cocktail Bar and Restaurant called 'Albannach' right on London's Trafalgar Square. Howie (TFCK) is currently in the throes of kitting out all the staff in corporate pin-stripe kilts. He is also staging a kilts fashion-show there early in 2006, to which I have been invited.
(** EG: Burns Nicht Supper: £80 pp. and St.Andrew's Night Buffet: £75 pp.)
Interesting point: our own Matt Newsome's website is called 'Albanach' - with one 'n'. Both spellings seem to be used extensively in Scotland (I've Googled both) - I wonder if there is any subtle difference when translated? Alas, although part Scot, I have no Gaelic.

A quick report from Sheriffmuir -
The weather did dry out and the temperatures dropped, but there was an excellent turn-out for the festivities and the commemoration at the Macrae Monument.
Ken Schirra, Grand Prior of the Scottish Knights Templar, giving the service at the monument -

Donnie, Kyle and Jamesie of Albannach, warming things up, back at the Sheriffmuir Inn -

Hamish, it is a bit of a mystery.
Albannach is the usual Gaelic for Scotsman, just as Sasannach refers to one from your own country. Yet a Russian is a Ruiseanach (note the single "n"). And somebody from Uist is a Uibhisteach (no "n's" at all).
Are we all confused now? ;)

Mike, the band seem to be wearing plain kilts now, no more Ardbeg! Maybe Laphroaig will be their sponsor, do they have a tartan?
